U.S. District Judge Gustavo Gelpi, Jr., is the first Article III federal judge to serve as president of the Federal Bar Association. In a new “On Topic” audio interview, he explains the association’s role in defending federal courts.

Saying that “without the third branch of government, the Constitution cannot come to life," Judge Gelpi added that the 16,000-plus-member FBA urged adequate funding for federal courts during the 2013 sequestration. Judge Gelpi serves in the District of Puerto Rico, in San Juan.

“On Topic” is an interview series in which experts talk about the programs, issues and ideas shaping the federal courts.
